Mozilla Releases Firefox 4 Beta 4 - Tab Candy Renamed to “Panorama” and Built-In

Firefox 4 is coming up great, and a huge Safari 5 fan is telling you this. Mozilla has just uploaded Firefox 4 Beta 4 to their servers (although the official Beta page hasn’t been updated yet) and you can go download it here. Update: official beta page now lets you download Beta 4.

The big news is, Tab Candy (or Tab Sets, or Firefox Uberview) has been renamed to Firefox Panorama (I love it) and it’s now built in Firefox 4, starting from this beta.

Aza Raskin:

“I am happy to announce that Tab Candy is coming to Firefox 4. Starting today, Tab Candy will be called Firefox Panorama and be available as a feature in Firefox betas. Head to the Firefox 4 feature list, or watch the video below, to learn how to organize your tabs into groups and reclaim your browsing experience from clutter and information overload.

While there are many directions still left to explore (some of which are covered in the Tab Candy announcement video), there is a strong set of design principle that have and will continue to guide development. We’ve already see activity from extension authors to extend the capabilities of Panorama, which makes now a perfect time to discuss Panorama’s design principles.”

I’ve been using Panorama for the past few weeks and it has deeply changed my browsing workflow, the way I organize all my open tabs and links I want to check out later. This is what modern browsers need, and Mozilla get it right first. Great job.

Check out Panorama’s screenshots and official video below.
