While Microsoft is slanted to talk at this year’s WWDC, what will it be about? Analysts suspect that Microsoft will be chatting about their new Visual Basic development tools for the Mac platform, but a bold few suggest it’s about Bing. While I wouldn’t keep your hopes up, there’s a rumor flying around that Bing might be replacing Google as the search provider on the iPhone once the next version lands this summer. Even though Google has become Apple’s new and latest threat, Google has a lot to lose when it comes to the amount of people who are exposed to their search engine; Google’s not going to let Apple shake hands with Microsoft.
Jobs may make an announcement such as, “You can now choose Bing as your default search engine in the Settings. We’re proud to have this relationship with Microsoft and we really like their search engine.” But will it replace Google, front and center? Hell no. Though what could be interesting, is if Apple could position themselves where you could pay for search engine exclusivity based on carrier. For example you’d have Google set up as your default search engine on Verizon, with Bing on AT&T. I doubt it’d ever happen (as there’s no evidence to support this), but I’m curious as to whether a multi-carrier model would open up the doors to this kind of discussion.
