VLC for iPad was released yesterday in the App Store, and according to developer Applidium the app has generated 125,000 download during its first afternoon in the App Store. Indeed, the app seems to be a huge success: it’s free, every blog is talking about it, it’s dominating the charts in iTunes.
I guess that if Applidium decided to price it at $1.99 they would has made some good bucks out of it, but we appreciate the “let’s keep it free” side of things. Still, many users are complaining about crashes, .MKV incompatibilities and audio-only issues. VLC has never been the best example of stableness and codec compatibility (there are worse apps around, sure, but there’s also Movist), but I say - give it some time.
VLC for iPad is promising and nice to look at. It’ll get better.
(anyway, the app played my .avi files just fine. and it’s fast)
