I’ve been dreaming about an “iPhone as wallet” for years now. Apple patents are not enough, I want the real thing: I want to ditch these cards and papers I still have in my pocket. For God’s sake, it’s 2010 we’re talking about. New Yorkers are closer than us to the real thing: thanks to the newly introduced payWave system by Visa, they can now pay train, subway and bus fares using their iPhone.
You fire up the Visa app, “slide to pay” to initiate the payment process, wave the phone over a compatible reader and you’re done. You’ve paid for something in the real word with a digital paper-free device. I think this is just great, so go take a look at the video after the break and dream with me about an iPhone-centered future payment system. It has to happen.
