Last week we posted that German Parliament members had replaced paper for iPads and now Denmark is following suit: Parliament members are getting ‘free’ 16GB iPhone 3GSs. All 179 members and around 1,000 staff have each been given their free iPhones.
Peter Krab, the Folketing Press Secretary, said that after testing some mobile phones, the iPhone best met their requirements. The issue could be who’s going to pay for these phones, the Danish people are taxed at a rate that maxes out at 63%, one of the highest rates in the world, and at over $1000 US, this could cost the Danish people some cash from their own pockets, at least they saved a little money by not buying iPhone 4s.
The iPhone was previously banned from the floor of the Danish Parliament partially due to Member of Parliament updating her Facebook page 59 times during a long debate.
