I remember when I was younger and I went to the primary school, changing the calendar page each month was some sort of an event. Maybe ‘cause we just couldn’t stand school at all, God knows.
Anyway, I had a strange feeling when I first tested this app, Years. I mean, it’s the same, good, old paper calendar ported to the iPhone. “What’s the pioint?”, I asked myself.
Then I realized. Years is - simply - beatiful app.
Don’t get me wrong now: being beautiful doesn’t mean you’re useless. The fact is, Years’ graphic awesomeness makes the app a pleasure to use.
Here it is, a digital / paper calendar. You have months, days of the week and two buttons on the top corners to change the years. Double tap on a month an you get the “single month view”.
The navigation through months and years is smoothless and gorgeous: just as Classics (another iPhone app) there’s a sexy page flip effect when you switch to previous / next year.
Now, as you can see, you can add visual scribbles to keep track of..everything, you decide. Still, I’d like to have the possibility to associate scribbles with notes / data, we’ll see in the future updates.
Last, you can copy / email month (see screenshot below). In a future update, it would be nice to see Twitter / Facebook integration (like: “I’ll go to see Green Day live on October 21st!”)
Anyway, Years is simple, functional (for what it does), sexy and has a big room for improvements. Sure, at $1.99 it could be a little pricey, but it’s totally worth the money.
At least for me. But I’m a fan of paper calendars.
