To make up for last week’s lack of a featured Weekly Game, we’re going to cover two different iOS games this week. The first one is Battleships, an intriguing (and pretty challenging) puzzle game for the iPhone developed by Rits Plasman and designed by pixel rockstar Marcelo Marfil.
Battleships looks a lot like the popular multiplayer board game, but it’s actually a single player variant of it mixed with logic puzzles and numbers. Inspired by games such as Sudoku, Shinro, Picross and Yubotu/Bimaru, in Battleship you’ll have to find hidden ships basing on the hints given by numbers across the map. For instance, a “0” indicates that a line has no hidden battleships in it, but higher numbers such as “3” or “4” will require you to do some clever thinking to come up with the right solution for the puzzle.
Battleships comes with several difficulty levels, contains over 100 puzzels and has Game Center integration for achievements. It’s also beautiful to look at.
Best of all, it’s available at $1.99 in the App Store. Optimized for the Retina Display and challenging enough to keep entertained (and focused) for hours, I highly recommend this.
