Diacarta is a cool app for the iPhone which, unlike most task managers quick reminders, doesn’t let you create items in a list. Diacarta wants to enable you to have a “picture” of your day by making an analog clock its main screen. Tasks are visualized as big icons linked to the clock in a specific time of the day. This way, Diacarts provides a quick view of your upcoming activities that you can edit at any time.
It’s visually rich and very, very custom.
I actually installed this app months ago, but haven’t been able to really use it. In spite of its cool and fresh concept, the first version of Diacarta didn’t come with Retina Display graphics (kind of a huge letdown, considering the app revolved around custom iOS graphics) and there was no way to be notified of upcoming events. Basically, you were forced to fire up the app from time to time to look at fuzzy graphics. I couldn’t use it.
That’s exactly what the Squnch developers have fixed in the new 1.2 version of Diacarta, released yesterday in the App Store. Diacarta 1.2 comes with shiny Retina-ready graphics, alert notifications, recurring events and iOS 4.2 compatibility. It feels like a new app to me.
To create events in Diacarta, you have to tap on the “+” button in the main clock screen. You can choose an icon for the event (library is pretty huge, considering that Diacarta is based on making tasks visual) the drag it anywhere around the clock to assign a start / end time to it. Double tap on it and you’ll enter the details screen where you can choose a name, set a location and alarms, make it a recurring event. That’s it. The app has a calendar view, too, to let you browse days from a more standard interface, but the real point is swiping between days to access the clock view.
Diacarta is a highly innovative iPhone app that offers an experience I hacen’t seen anywhere else. It’s available at $1.99 in the App Store.
