Tweet What You’re Listening To With PodTweet

While it’s true that I daily discover new stuff like Mac and iPhone apps with Twitter, I can’t say the same for new music. If I want to listen to new bands or interesting albums I still have to read dozens of music blogs and magazines, because people don’t seem to share their music discoveries on Twitter. And that’s pretty weird actually, ‘cause we share almost everything that happens to us on Twitter. God knows. Anyway, if you have an iPhone / iPod Touch and you use it to both tweet and listen to your music - have you ever thought of combining these two things into one?

Here comes PodTweet.

PodTweet has only feature: it lets you tweet the song you’re currently listening to in iPod.app. That’s it. Once you’ve installed the application, you’ll be asked to enter your Twitter username and password to let the app post to Twitter. I wish it used OAuth, but it works nevertheless. It displays the artwork of the application together with artist’s and song’s name in the top bar. There are no music controls, no additional settings, no nothing. Just a cloud shaped button which lets you send the song to your Twitter account.

Here’s a sample tweet I sent today. As you can see, it adds the #podtweet hashtag and “Listening to” before the name of the song. Simple and straighforward.

There’s an autotweet function too, which you can set up in Settings.app. You can decide to never autotweet, or only when song or artist changes. Also, I’d like to mention that the user interface was designed by my friend Fabio from MCubed Design (@toxinide on Twitter. Be sure to follow him, he’s into a lot of cool projects!).

[Please notice that I have Winterboard enabled, that explains my custom statusbar and font)

PodTweet is available at $0.99 in the App Store [iTunes Link]. Should you purchase it? Well, if you really listen to a lot of music with your iPhone and you have an audience who doesn’t mind reading your music discoveries or interests, yes - you should. It’s a very simple app that has only one basic feature but it definitely gets the job done. Sure, I hope the developers will add more stuff in the next updates (possibility to edit tweets, music controls) but it’s already a good app which could only get better and better from now on.
