Apple To Live Stream WWDC 2014 Keynote on June 2

As first noted by 9to5mac, Apple has confirmed they will live stream the WWDC 2014 keynote on June 2. Speakers haven’t been revealed yet, but, considering the company’s history over the past few years, CEO Tim Cook will likely kick off the keynote, with SVPs Federighi, Schiller, and Cue assigned to announcing new versions of iOS, OS X, improvements to iCloud and iTunes, or new hardware. According to the company’s website, “exciting announcements” will be revealed during the special event, which will start at 10 AM PDT.

WWDC 2014 was announced on April 2. Running through June 6, the conference will host “more than 100 technical sessions, over 1,000 Apple engineers, hands-on labs to help developers integrate new technologies and fine tune their apps”. New this year, WWDC will also feature dedicated “get togethers” for attendees with special topics and guest speakers; Apple has also already announced that both the State of the Union keynote address and Apple Design Awards will be livestreamed through the WWDC website to give developers around the globe a chance to follow the event in real-time.

Tickets for WWDC 14 were made available to developers through a random lottery system. Unlike previous years – which sold out in a matter of minutes – Apple decided to let developers apply for a ticket and select them at a later date through a random system with confirmation emails.

Apple is expected to unveil iOS 8 and the next version of OS X during the WWDC keynote; according to 9to5mac, OS X will undergo its first major redesign in years under the direction of Jony Ive, while iOS 8 will refine the new interface introduced by iOS 7 last year and introduce new features such as split-screen multitasking on iPad, a Healthbook app for health monitoring purposes, better inter-app communication, and more.

As in previous years, Apple is expected to start decorating Moscone West soon with official banners for WWDC 2014, possibly including official graphics for the next versions of iOS and OS X.
