We all know that the iPad is gonna change the way we consume media, though we still don’t know how exactly. Sure the first step will be iBooks, with newspapers and magazines to follow with iPad specific apps and subscription services. But back to where we are now, what about RSS feeds? Yeah, those things you’re likely to use with Google Reader which should have been died 2 years ago but they’re still here. I honestly don’t see RSS completely die anytime soon, I’m more orientated towards an evolution and change and maybe - I don’t know much about it at this time - Spreads for iPad will contribute to this change.
The developers of Spreads aims at changing the way you read web content using RSS feeds. They want to reinvent the RSS format, make it simpler and more familiar with the world of print publishing, something that doesn’t simply acts as a browser. Sounds exciting.
We don’t have any more information about Spreads now, we’ve only been able to find two mockups of the work in progress build, but they don’t show this much anyway. You can find them here and here.
On an interesting side note, read how the devs have managed to create a good development enviroment:
“We’re using a NEC MultiSync touchscreen (LCD2690WUXi, to be exact) hooked up to a Mac and run the simulator inside; this allows us to fiddle with the UI with our fingers, and no through some middle-device like a trackpad or an iPhone.”
I suggest you to take a look at Spreads’ teaser page and subscribe to the newsletter. I have the feeling this is gonna be interesting.
