Preview: CourseNotes, The First Alternative Note Taking App for iPad

I knew this was gonna happen, but I didn’t expect it to actually happen that soon. I’m talking about note taking apps, probably one of the most popular genres on the iPhone App Store, ready to take over the iPad store as well.  What better than a new application that supports notes, note sessions and todos then?

Here’s a preview of CourseNotes. It looks good.

I’ve stumbled upon this video on Youtube and I was quite impressed. From the looks of it, CourseNotes seems that kind of application that aims at collecting all your notes, organize them and outline them in  a single place.

The video shows the application running in landscape mode, and allow me to make this consideration now: I think the iPad will make landscape prominent, the opposite of what happened on the iPhone. Anyway, there’s the already popular split view in there, storing your “Subjects” - I don’t know anything about this yet. I guess it’s a bigger container for notes and todos, pretty much like “Topics” in other applications. You can add new subjects on the right, together with a new notes group and view the last notes session.

Entering a new note or todo is achieved with a modal window (yeah, I love modal stuff), and you can also assign a color label - like in the Finder. There’s a lexicon feature too, so I guess the app is geared towards..students, perhaps? Even so, I can see CourseNotes working for, say, bloggers too, allowing you to create multiple “categories” and create notes within them.

Check out the video below, and expect a detailed review on MacStories as soon as it will be available.

[UPDATE]: The video has been removed from Youtube. We’ll keep you posted.
