Take Me There for Apple Watch

Take Me There is a new $0.99 app for Apple Watch that solves a simple problem: the inability to quickly get directions to favorite locations through Apple’s Maps app.

Developed by David Smith, Take Me There lets you create an unlimited number of favorites on your iPhone: type an address, pick a result from Apple’s database, and give it a name. Then, locations will show up on your Apple Watch as large tappable Maps previews that you can tap to open walking or driving directions with the Maps app for Apple Watch. There’s no need to search for addresses, no need to navigate to favorites in the Maps app every time you’re looking for directions. Just open the app, tap a location, and you’re done.

Interestingly, Take Me There was created by David Smith in about six hours, and he documented the process with a video available on YouTube.

Something I often struggle to answer is the question of ‘How do you make an app?’

The process is multifaceted and often complex. I recently had an idea for an application that I thought I could build in a single sitting so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to try and capture what this looks like.

In a short amount of time, David put together a handy utility that takes fewer taps than Apple Maps to get directions quickly on Apple Watch – a device where it’s essential to keep interactions brief and taps under control. $0.99 on the App Store.
