Apple CEO Tim Cook walked on stage today and kicked off the company’s March 21 event with his opening remarks on encryption and the FBI, but the keynote was filled with lots of extra facts and statistics.
From adoption rates to apps available on the App Store, these numbers are interesting as they’re typically shared throughout the year in dedicated events or press releases. We’ve compiled the most important numbers from Apple’s March 21 keynote below.
- There are now more than 1 billion Apple devices in use around the world.
- 93% of Apple facilities worldwide run on renewable energy. Apple is 100% renewable in 23 countries at this point. 100% of data centers are also powered by clean sources of energy.
- In Singapore, Apple built solar panels on more than 800 rooftops because of space constraints on the ground.
- 99% of Apple packaging comes from paper that is recyclable or comes from sustainable forests. Apple also permanently preserved 36,000 acres of forests in the United States.
- “Virtually overnight” tens of thousands of people signed up for ResearchKit studies last year.
- The Apple Watch has become the top selling smartwatch in the world and it’s also #1 for customer satisfaction according to Apple.
- About a third of Watch users regularly change their bands.
- 5000 Apple TV apps are now available on the tvOS App Store.
- Apple sold over 30 million 4-inch iPhones in 2015.
- iPhone SE has double the speed of the iPhone 5S (three times the graphics performance of the 5S).
- Apple wants to have the iPhone SE available in 110 countries by the end of May.
- iOS 9 is running on 80% of active iOS devices.
- Apple News has 50 million active users.
- More than 100 car models with CarPlay support have been announced to date.
- Apple has sold over 200 million 9.7-inch iPads.
- Over 1 million iPad apps are now available on the App Store.
