Kpressor Fills the ZIP Archive Gap in iOS 11

Since moving to the iPad full-time, I’ve had a couple ZIP-related moments of frustration. Whether I’ve been trying to create a ZIP archive or unzip a file, I’ve had to resort to apps with less-than-ideal support.

Kpressor is a new app that specializes in ZIP compression and decompression built for iOS 11. Through the Files app, you can work with ZIP files in the easiest way I’ve seen yet, an integration that will speed up my workflow and keep me from pulling out my hair.

After launching the app, you’ll be greeted with two options: “Create ZIP Archive” and “Open ZIP Archive”. For the former, you’ll be selecting items from the file picker and adding them to a new archive from within Kpressor or by dragging files in from other locations. Once you’ve added all the necessary files, tap “Close”, and your ZIP will be created and saved to your chosen location.

For my uses, unzipping through Kpressor will be much more frequent, and the app makes it incredibly simple to extract files. When you’ve saved a ZIP to Files, you’ll open Kpressor, tap “Open ZIP Archive”, select the ZIP, and you’re done. The list of files inside the archive will then be available for further exporting, and the best way to do this is by dragging and dropping back into Files.

Kpressor has a niche purpose, but one that I’m going to be grateful for the next time I’m looking to work with ZIP files. You can pick it up in the App Store for $4.99.
