Of all the utilities I have installed on my iPhone, one of the most used is iCurrency Pad, which I reviewed some months ago here. It’s a great looking converter app that helps me in converting USD to Euros and vice versa, with exchange rates updated in real time and nice graphs that give me a brief overview of what’s changed between the two currencies over time. The app is useful and beautiful, but it only converts, you know, money and since I bought my iPad I began looking for some new app that would allow me to convert multiple measures in a single interface, possibly as great looking as iCurrency’s one.
Fortunately, I found the perfect app for me: GlobeConvert Pro.
Just like the Settings app, you have this left sidebar which doesn’t become a popover when you switch to landscape mode. Actually, the app only supports portrait mode, and I wish the developers will fix this in the upcoming releases. Anyway, it’s all pretty straightforward: you have units on the left, a numeric keyboard at the bottom and converters in the right panel. Just select one, tap a value and you’re done. The app converts everything in seconds across all the available unites, and it even check exchange rates online when it’s about money. It’s very useful and, even if uses the much abused wood texture, it looks good and friendly.
GlobeConvert Pro is available at $0.99 in the App Store and it does its jobs just fine, with some added UI goodness which is always welcomed here. Go buy it, ‘cause you can’t have anything better than this right now.
