So AT&T has some new plans out. What you need to know is what exactly you can and can’t do with tethering. First (and maybe last) in this rundown is the fact that you cannot have your iPhone tether to your iPad for wireless wifi or bluetooth.
The iPad won’t allow you to tether because it doesn’t have any USB ports, according to an AT&T spokeswoman. TechFlash reports that bluetooth tethering also isn’t possible,
“…Mac expert and Seattle journalist Glenn Fleishman notes that he ‘discovered in testing that the iPad includes the Bluetooth profile required for tethering, but it is not enabled.’”
I argue that even if you could, it wouldn’t matter. If you couldn’t get 3G service on your AT&T iPhone, what makes you think you can the same service with your AT&T iPad in the same area? So tethering in this sense is silly anyway. Unless I’m totally missing something (feel free to tell me in the comments - I’m on the wifi iPad). Besides, this seems to be Apple’s limitation at the moment, and not AT&T’s.
