Apple May Still have iPhone on Verizon Later this Year, T-Mobile a No Go

Kellex from Droid-Life is a pretty reliable source when it comes down to insider Verizon information, and this morning he’s reporting that the iPhone 4 is destined to land on Verizon’s network later this year. What’s interesting is the inside glimpse at how Apple approaches carriers – there’s a very high cost of entry for those willing to play ball with Apple’s lust worthy handset, and potential carrier T-Mobile backed out of the deal in fear of going bankrupt.

T-Mobile simply couldn’t support the costs of Apple’s handset on their network, but Verizon, being a bigger carrier with more money, sees a financial investment. In hopes of attracting customer’s away from AT&T’s security issues, network instability, and bad reputation, Verizon could certainly sell many an iPhone 4. Though Kellex can’t imagine it’d be anytime soon, partly because of exclusivity with AT&T, which we reported had been invalidated.

“So when does Verizon plan on making their announcement?  My source says July, but I’m hesitant to jump on that as Big Red has the Droid X launching on July 19th and the Droid 2 coming just weeks later.”

A big concern for comeback manufacturer Motorola and competitor HTC, who both sell top notch Android phones on Verizon’s network, is that the iPhone 4 would completely undermine sales of Android due to its massive popularity.

“Just days ago, after negotiations had fallen out between T-Mobile and Apple, the official news of Verizon inking their deal was being faxed to those needing to know, of course accompanied by a pound of non-disclosures.  Apparently Verizon hopes that an iPhone deal will make them money in the long run as the rumored amount of cash they forked over for this was more than something extraordinary.”

Those waiting for an iPhone 4 on Verizon may get their wish soon.
