David Lanham’s FaceTime Portraits

How far can a designer push his creativity? I guess it’s just about inspirations and the tools you have with you. Ask David Lanham, designer over at the Iconfactory (developers of apps such as Twitterrific), who’s started drawing portraits / caricatures over FaceTime. We interviewed David last year during the Apps Tree, in case you missed it.

The concept is simple: you have a FaceTime call with David, you stand still, he draws an awesome portrait you can use later as, say, your new Twitter avatar. It’s genius. Check out a few examples of portraits he’s drawn below, or head over his Flickr set:

As Wired also reports,

“The fun started when Dave broke his foot and was left lounging around the house. His friend Gio Gutierrez (right) volunteered for a portrait and then things just got bigger and bigger. Dave is charging $50 per portrait, which you can then use as your online personality (or print on a T-Shirt, we guess, if you are really narcissistic).”
