Signal App: Detailed Data About Cell Towers [Cydia]

So were looking for reasons to jailbreak the iPhone 4. As if MyWi and My3G weren’t enough, here comes a new app from @planetbeing (the baseband extraordinaire who’s working on the iPhone unlock) that allow us to check on the status of the nearest cell towers, and which one the iPhone is using. Geek stuff, but it’s great.

Once you install the app from Cydia (available at $4.99) you just need to wait a couple of minutes for the baseband to update, then you’ll be able to see a Google Map with your position (blue dot), the cell tower you’re using (red) and previously seen towers (yellow). Signal is measured in negative dBm.

I think this will turn out to be very useful when I’ll be away from my town and need good coverage to work on the go. Go look for it now in Cydia, and download it.
