Groovershark App Pulled from App Store

Grooveshark have a history for not getting their official iPhone app quite right. First, they wanted to be able to do stuff like background music streaming when Apple wasn’t providing the API for that, and when the app was rejected, they decided to publish it on Cydia. It was even a good-looking app.

A few days ago the client was finally released in the App Store. Now, the app is no longer available.

Yes, they managed to get approved and have the app on sale for a few days. Yesterday, Grooveshark published a post on the company’s blog explaining the details of the removal:

“Earlier this afternoon, Apple sent us a letter notifying us that, due to a complaint they received from Universal Music Group UK, Grooveshark for iPhone has been, strangely, pulled from the App Store.

This comes as an absolute surprise to us, and we are not sleeping until we figure out exactly how to fix this—and get Grooveshark for iPhone back in the App Store. Above all, our biggest concern is damaging the service we provide to all of you guys—our loyal (awesome) users.”

So, if you downloaded the app you can keep enjoying it. Perhaps Grooveshark could use this “misunderstanding” to update the app to include support for the Retina Display and iOS multitasking. [via MacLife]
