Back in July, when Steve Jobs announced the free-for-all iPhone Case Program, he said that the expiration date was set to September 30th. Apple needed more time to think about the iPhone 4 antenna issues and a possible new solution.
Now, according to Mexican website CanalMX, Telcel’s (carrier) Director of Value Added Services Marco Quatorze stated that Apple is about to released a revised iPhone 4 by the end of September.
MacRumors reports:
“According to Marco Quatorze, Telcel’s Director of Value Added Services, the iPhone 4 sold in Mexico will initially be the same hardware as that sold in the U.S. and elsewhere, with Apple offering a free case to address potential issues with antenna performance. But he also noted that as of September 30th, when the free case program expires, revised hardware without the reception issues will become available.”
Now I’m left wondering: what the hell could Marco Quatorze ever know? He’s not a high-positioned executive. He doesn’t work for AT&T or (even better) Verizon, he works for a Mexican carrier which probably needs some word of mouth here and there. He comes out saying a new iPhone version is on its way. I find this rumor very unlikely, but color me surprised if Apple releases an iPhone 4.1 oin 30 days.
