Cooliris Previews Discover for iPad: Wikipedia In A Magazine

There’s no shortage of applications to access Wikipedia on our iPads, Articles and Wikipanion being those that I can think of right now. Still, the Cooliris team thought that they could make things better, different: pretty much like Flipboard turns your social stream in a magazine, they decided to turn Wikipedia into a magazine.

With Discover you get a cover with an article of the day, a photo of the day and the possibility to change the magazine’s cover by shaking the iPad. When inside an article, text is formatted to be laid out in multiple pages, with beautiful typography and the same pictures from the Wikipedia entry. You can pinch to reveal the table of contents, tap on every word to get an instant definition. Furthermore, Discover will allow you to access your recently viewed articles and opt for a sidebar with the various sections of an article.

We’re looking forward to Discover for iPad, which is “coming soon”. In the meantime, check out the preview video below.
