If you’re looking to get your mind blown this afternoon, I highly recommend you download Mandelpad from the iTunes App Store. Featuring everyone’s favorite fractals, it’s a simple application that allows you to explore the world of these infinitely generating masterpieces, so let’s take a look.
You can pre-populate your iPad with a series of fractals, my favorites being Deep Julia and Ribbon, though I bet you’d love the Red Dragon. You can change the color profile of any generated fractal you choose, and zoom-in to get a bigger glimpse at the available and infinite micro-world.
While the app does struggle a little bit when quickly generating fractals, I can’t blame it: there’s an infite world of pixels in there. In the future, I would like to see faster renders and pinch-open to zoom out, but in the meantime, it’s certainly an interesting visual application if you’re looking for some wild art. Trippy!
