Project, the iPad-only magazine from Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group, was off to a good start when it was first released and then, pretty much like any other iPad magazine, it quickly disappeared from the App Store charts. There was a lot of excitement and anticipation around Branson’s Project, mainly because it was the first magazine to be built entirely with the iPad in mind and because, well, anything from Branson is a little bit cool.
While we didn’t exactly go crazy over the first issue of Project (it had a great animated cover, and some fancy graphics here and there inside the magazine), perhaps the second issue, released today, will get us a bit more excited. Issue 2 of Project Mag has another animated cover and interview featuring the star of Born Survivor/Man vs Wild Bear Grylls.
The second issue of Project also includes:
- A photostory slideshow depicting life in Burma under the military junta – but with an audio commentary by the photographer talking about his experiences sneaking behind the “Bamboo Curtain”.
- A unique glance inside McLaren’s new MP4-12C supercar – where you can “wipe” away the bodywork to reveal the interior beneath.
- An incredible insight into the scoring of a Hollywood movie – as much-sought-after composer Clint Mansell (Sunshine, Requiem For A Dream) talks you through the key moments in the score to his new movie Black Swan.
- A specially-shot video guide to London – this month incorporating up-to-the-minute tips from the readers themselves too.
- An interactive quiz testing your knowledge of Julian Assange and his mischievous WikiLeaks.
- A vast, interactive, bite-sized guide to 2011 – from politics and science to art and investment tips - including contributions from Sir Richard Branson himself
Project is available for free in the App Store, with issues available as in-app purchases at $2.99. While we’re still waiting for the open-sourced cover to go live in the magazine, we hope this new issue will turn out to be more intuitive and even more interactive than the first one.
