Sorted is a very simple (and beautiful) to-do / list app for the iPad we first reviewed in May. The iPad was “the new hot thing” back then, not so many productivity apps were available and Things was my GTD app of choice. Sorted managed to stand out because it was elegant and provided a new way to simple list creation and task management on the tablet. It wasn’t meant for the average GTD power user still it captured the hearts of many hardcore users by being the “alternative” to more popular software like the aforementioned Things or, months later, OmniFocus for iPad.
I liked Sorted because it was the app I used to create lists out of my daily GTD environment. In fact, I still have the app on my iPad. But it’s a lot better now, as version 2.0 was released in the App Store a couple of days ago and it’s really good.
Sorted 2.0 is now a universal app fully optimized for the Retina Display and iOS 4. It’s still sold at $0.99, and the iPhone counterpart is basically a smaller version of the iPad one you’ve gotten used to. So what’s new in Sorted? Well, the developers implemented new features and options to take the app a step closer to a “usual” GTD setup yet retaining the feeling of the old Sorted. The app now comes with due dates capable of sending local notifications, alarm sounds, priority settings for the tasks you need to get done first. Everything happens in the same List view, which now has additional tabs to display tasks by priority, due date and completion.
The interface has been refined to be even simpler, the developers added more languages and fixed time & date settings on tasks.
Sorted 2.0 is a great update to an app that already was a damn good piece of software. It doesn’t have OTA sync, but I do think that the main purpose of Sorted isn’t to let you build intricate databases of tasks and sync them between multiple devices. it’s only $0.99 in the Store.
