You know it had to happen. We’ve already reviewed Edovia’s TouchPad for the iPhone and iPod touch, but now it’s back and better than ever in high def for Apple’s very own Moses Tablet (quoting @patrickrhone). If you’ve ever wanted a touchpad the size of a dinner plate, strap in, because I’m about to blow your mind.
And holy crap. There it is, in all of its giant TouchPad’ness. This seems like the most ridiculous use of an iPad ever, but trust me when I say you could comfortably (with your definition of comfortable being weighed against using the iPad’s virtual keyboard) replace a keyboard and mouse. So if you have a Macbook, an iPad, but don’t have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, you could save yourself the hundred plus dollars.
There aren’t too many new functions other than the pad space, but I will say that lag is non-existant (compared to the earlier version of the review), and the iPad’s extra sensitive glass display makes moving the mouse with nothing but your fingers very accurate and fast. Plus, the included Front Row media controller is just great for tuning into your favorite playlist during parties and admittedly, dinner.
TouchPad for the iPad isn’t just giant, it’s incredibly useful. Something that seems like it’d be silly not only works great, but excels at being a Mac controller. Screen size is everything, and to prove it we’re giving away five copies to some lucky MacStories readers who’ll put the iPad through it’s paces. So bow down MacBooks, iMacs, and ye of little faith - the iPad is here to replace your precious keyboard and touchpad. Thanks to Edovia for the review licenses, and be sure to check out their application in the iTunes App Store.
