Audiobox.fm is a great online music service I reviewed a while ago while it was in its early stages of development. The developers are based in Italy, and this - compared to the fact that the service was very promising - couldn’t make me happier. During these months the developers have been working hard on improving the reliability, UI and accessibility of the app, and it shows. It’s almost a new webapp, with a redesigned dashboard interface and lots of more options, plans and extra apps.
Among these apps the iPhone client, which has been approved by Apple and it’s now available for free in the App Store.
First off, you need to have an Audiobox account to use the app, of course. You can take a look at all the plans here, and there are some pretty good options in there. The developers didn’t think Apple would approve the app (streaming is always a problem when it comes to Apple and rules) so they built it pretty quickly and included only the basic features such as background playback on Wifi and 3G, playlists support, artwork cache, remote and audio widget controls, Last.fm support.
I assume that in the future versions we’ll see offline storage, Retina Display graphics and, perhaps, a real mobile library manager. We’ll see. In the meantime, the app does exactly what you expect (streaming) and you can go download it here.
