My parents used to hate my iPod: every time they were around I had my earbuds on, and I couldn’t hear them. They talked, talked and talked and I was happily enjoying some Oasis on my beloved Classic. Eventually my mom got that iPod Classic, but that’s a different story. I wish I had Awareness for iPhone back then.
Awareness is a new iPhone app which is pure genius: it lets you listen to music while picking outside noises, such as traffic or conversations. It uses the built-in iPhone mic to hear what’s going on around you, but you can set the level of noise the app should pick. The cool thing is you can use it with music, videos, games and audiobooks and the app perfectly supports iOS 4 multitasking. The UI is nice and not overly designed.
Important sounds won’t be missed, and you’ll still have your music. A decent compromise, I think. Awareness! The Headphone App is available at $4.99 in the App Store. Check out the screenshots and preview video below.
