According to the International Gamers Survey 2010, iOS has nearly surpassed the Nintendo DS as the most popular gaming platform in the U.S. This is interesting news, especially considering that iOS already surpassed Sony’s PSP, which is used regularly by 18 million Americans. Sorry, Marcus.
Market research and consulting firm Newzoo found that 77 million Americans play games on mobile phones and portable devices. Of those, 40.1 million use the iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad. The platform of choice for 41.0 million ages 10 and up is the Nintendo DS and DSi. Eightteen million Americans play using Sony’s PSP
Also from the same survey:
● 34% of Nintendo DS/DSi users also play games on an iPod Touch.
● 90% of people gaming on the iPad also use an iPhone or iPod Touch.
Which is interesting, because it shows that a considerable percentage of Nintendo users likes playing games on iOS, and yet most of iPad owners also own an iPhone or iPod Touch. I’d be interested in knowing how many own an iPhone, and how many got an iPod Touch, though. The 4th generation one, for instance, looks like one hell of a device to play games on. It’s going to be an interesting holiday season.
