The Dev-Team is working hard on creating the first unlock and jailbreak tools for the iPhone 4. The new device was released a couple of weeks ago, but the jailbreak community is already active in development of new tweaks and ways to bypass Apple’s restrictions.
First, unlock. You know, that method that allows you to use any kind of SIM on iPhones tied to a specific carrier, like AT&T in the US - or T-Mobile in Germany. France and UK have unlocked phones, so there’s no problem there. But as you can guess, unlocking an iPhone is a big deal for, say, people in the US who’d like to ditch AT&T and enjoy a better network - without having to wait for Apple to announce an unlocked handset next year.
Musclenerd is getting closer to the final version of the iPhone 4 unlock, which implies studying the all new baseband and find a way to remove Apple’s restrictions. As seen on Twitpic though, it seems like we’re getting there.
As for jailbreak, we heard the new tools are already finished and they’re very likely to be released as soon as Apple pushes the iOS 4.1 update. It should be a userland jailbreak (pretty much like Spirit by @comex) which means it’s based on a simple user hack Apple still hasn’t noticed.
Now the question is, is jailbreak still worth it? We think so.
