I really enjoy simple games on the iPhone and iPod touch. Saving those serious sweaty sessions for Modern Warfare and Left 4 Dead on my Xbox, iPhone apps like Doodle Jump, Stategery, Fox VS Duck, and now iSlice have come to dominate an occasional downtime. And let me tell ya, iSlice is addicting.
The object of the game is simple. You drag your finger across various construction paper (cardboard?) objects to slice chunks off at a time. During your slice, little white cotton balls of doom try to impede on your path. Avoid the balls or they’ll break the slice and you have to start the whole process over. The goal is to slice enough pieces off from the object so that you can advance. This might take anywhere from five slices to ten (or less if you’re skilled). The game is highly addictive, and I was also impressed by the visuals.
Certainly there is lots of eye candy to be had here. Each shape has a notable saying that are all pretty great, and the visual effects are really crisp. Backgrounds are not to be missed, but if you’re shooting for a better time and less slices, you might miss a lot of the details put into this application. There’s just a lot of cool things to see.
If you’re looking for a quick pick up game, iSlice should be added to your collection. Available for $0.99 on the iTunes App Store, it’s certainly a dollar well spent. Keep in mind that there is no score keeping system for this app, so those looking to compete won’t have that functionality here. But casual players should enjoy running through the levels, and I definitely don’t mind the lack of a high score list.
