OweMe: Lending Manager App for iPhone

You know what really pisses me off? When someone comes with me for a beer on Saturday night and when it’s time to pay, he realizes he doesn’t have any money with him. Man I hate stuff like this, and every single time I have to stay quiet and lend this person some money - ‘cause it’s not very appropriate to give him a dose of “Ticci Hyper Mode” in a random pub. So there it goes, 5 Euros to John for the beer. Different scenario, my friend calls: “Hey man, would you please buy me that thing on eBay? I heard you’re good with computers. Oh of course, I’ll give you the money as soon as we’ll meet!” Fine, 20 Euros for that damn rare manga.

Fortunately, money always comes back to me but guess what - it’s a pain to remember who owes me something. And of course I won’t jot this stuff into Omnifocus. OweMe is a very nice application for iPhone which aims to collect all the things you’ve lent, and even those you owe, into a single window, powered by a good looking design which makes the dirty job a pleasure to look at.

Developed by Benedikt Terhechte, OweMe manages debits and credits, is able to set reminders and due date, lets you switch between different currencies and supports Address Book. Obviously, you can protect everything with an access code, ‘cause you don’t want your little brother to sneak into your plans to stole money from your friend who was drunk last night and doesn’t remember. If you ask me, I did it a couple of times, but I’m sure I’ve been fooled another couple of times too. Anyway, the main screen of OweMe is the credit (I Get) tab, but you can customize this in the Preferences. The other two tabs are Debit (I Owe) and Archive, where you can see all the lendings you’ve marked as “complete”.

Adding a new entry is simple: just tap on the + button in the top left corner and enter a description (perhaps the name of the person who owes you something), the amount (you can even divide through an amount of people, if you’ve been this unlucky to lend money to 10 friends of yours) and set a due date. Oh yeah, you can also geo locate the place where you’ll take care of your next victim - I do.

OweMe comes at $1.99 in the App Store, and if you usually mess with lent money, it’s a must have. Far from being my new Death Note (and pay attention, I said “new”), I found OweMe quite enjoyable to use it again in the future whether I’ll have the chance again. But please, bring some money with you next Saturday - I’m gonna geo locate the pub otherwise.
