“The science of today is the technology of tomorrow. ~ Edward Teller”
Every morning I wake up I check my college email account. Because they have the Google business thing going on, my college email consists of a google start page which links to my college calendar, a tasks list, notes, weather, my email, and lastly quotes. The Quotes of the Day widget is something I look forward to checking out each day, so Quote Portal is right up my ally.
Quote Portal is stunning in both looks and design. It’s just a really pretty app, taking advantage of big tappable icons that’s akin to the iPhome homescreen. Everything is also incredibly fluid - animations and effects never failed to amaze me. I think it’s amazing just how much attention was given to this application, considering how simple it is in concept.
The app opens in the categories window, where you can tap a category and start reading related quotes. Tapping a category will open “the doors of enlightenment” as I call them, and the window will slide up to reveal a horizontal scroll bar (to easily access your categories while in this mode).
Viewing quotes is intuitive, as you can either swipe your finger across the screen or press the arrows at the bottom of the screen. If you want, you can even cover up the horizontal scroll bar by dragging the window down from the top of the screen (I wonder if that was meant to be a little secret?). If you want to share the quote with your friends, you can send the quote to your email or copy it to your clipboard. I do wish it had built in Twitter support though.
To make finding quotes easier, you can browse the authors list to get quotes directly from the people you find most interesting. You can also view all the quotes from the application alphabetically.
Lastly, you can favorite that quote by tapping on the heart. Tapping it again will remove that quote from your favorites. To view your favorite quotes, simply tap the favorites category from the listing.
There are lots of quotes to choose from (such as Art, Business, and Humor), and if you’re like me, you’ll definitely want to check out this application. It even has a daily quotes section, so you can get a brand new quote each day! For only $.99 [iTunes Link], you get a ton of quality material.
