So you own an iMac that’s locked into the office. Perhaps you prefer the 17” behemoth that is the Macbook Pro. And maybe you just might be an Adium addict. But why should you be tethered to your machines on a local network? Take Adium to the couch with Remodium for iPhone.
If you’re on the bleeding edge of Adium betas, you should at least have Adium 1.4b17 or higher (last I checked the most current version is 1.4b18). Once obtained, download the Remodium plugin and the accompanying iPhone application from the iTunes App Store. Launch Adium, start your clients, and you’re good to go. Linking your devices is no different than linking Apple’s Remote to iTunes.
Remodium is pretty fantastic. Conversations are instantly updated between your ‘i’ device and Adium on your Mac, meaning you never miss a beat. Everything was just instant, and I applaud that. With your buddy list available wherever you may be (as long as you’re connected to your local network), it’s a really nice convenience. While it’d be cool to bounce back to Adium outside of your network, I’m sure someone who has decent skills in networking can tunnel through an open Wi-Fi spot back to your home network. But at that amount of work, you might as well just use a native IM client on the go.
If you’re looking for a mobile solution to remain connected to all of your IM conversations, but you don’t want to be tethered to the computer, plop down on the bed and launch Remodium on your iPhone. It offers a quick, native mobile experience that doesn’t disconnect you from the conversation – you can jump out of Remodium to check a Safari link and dive back since Adium will still be running on the Mac. Remodium is $4.99 on the iTunes App Store, and we have one copy to giveaway to a lucky reader. If you’re an Adium fan, check out the giveaway below for more information.
