I love waking up to new apps from people I respect and admire. The Iconfactory guys are among these people: how couldn’t the makers of Twitterrific not be in the list? They’re great developers and experienced designers that don’t fail to surprise on each new app release.
Take Five is a new app for iPhone from The Iconafctory aimed at letting you remember about the music you paused and never turned back on. Admittedly, this is quite a common problem: not all iPhone apps support automatic resume after a phone call interruption (Spotify, for example) and so many times we simply forget to press the play button again. Take Five automatically fades your music back in after 5 minutes. Why didn’t we think of this before?
Genius is in simplicity, they say. Take Five is simple: I’m playing with it right now, and together with a beautiful (but not overly designed) UI you just have all the controls to “start pausing” your music for 5 minutes and that’s it. You can change pause time or quickly resume by sliding the timer back to 0: indeed, the app uses the same slider seen in the iPhone lockscreen - it’s a little bit strange at first, but it’s growing on me. I also really like the soft fade when music kicks in.
Take Five is a simple utility designed by the masters over at The Iconfactory that’ll come in handy if you usually forget iPod app was playing some tunes before that damn call. At only $0.99 in the App Store and with a great icon, Take Five is a great surprise to wake up to.
