When I find a new artist that I really like on iTunes or elsewhere, the first thing I’ll do is check out their current album. For me, I like to keep only music from the past two years and up on my iPad and iPod touch. With such a current collection, there might just be an earlier album I missed from what I think are new and budding artists, so instead of heading over to Wikipedia or Myspace, I’ve come to check out Tune Finder instead.
That new MGMT or Flaming Lips album I found? Now I can find out what I’ve been missing through the years. Now while of course I have the full Cold War Kids discography, there will certainly be lots of bands whose collection you’ll be dying to complete. Imagine having every Boxer Rebellion album, or perhaps finding out that Chalk Farm really did only have that one hit wonder, “Lie on Lie,” in the 90’s.
Tune Finder chugs away at the music currently on your iPhone and iPod touch, looking for artist albums (and singles if you wish to display those). At any time you choose, you can skip an artist whose database is being updated, stop the update altogether, or refresh it. By update, I mean Tune Finder’s background search function as it compares what you have to the outside music world.
While there’s iTunes links next to each item, you can preview songs in the app until you’re ready to buy. Artists who have new tunes to be found are highlighted in yellow.
Tune Finder is a dead simple music finder. For only $0.99 in the Apple App Store, I’d give it a whirl.
