If there’s something Apple iPhone’s camera lacks, that’s digital zoom in my opinion. I mean, every cellphone nowadays has the digital zoom feature built in.
So, what if you’d like to have the zoom now?
There’s Zoom Lens for that!
Zoom Lens, developed by Bit Wink has one and only feature: it lets you take zoomed pictures, that’s it. But, unlike many other apps that populate the App Store, it lets you zoom with ease and with an uncluttered and elegant interface.
As you can see, there’s no bottom slider / whatever to adjust the zoom: you just have to pinch, just as you already do in the photo view or Safari. This suddenly feels natural and very “iPhone OS-like”.
Anyway, there are a few shortcuts you’d like to know: you can double tap the screen while takin’ a picture to jump to 4x zoom, double tap again to go back to normal and single tap tap to focus all every zoom level. That’s kind of interesting.
Photos are saved at full resolution (1536 x 2048) on the 3GS and the final result is sharpened compared to the live view.
Last, a small note about the icon: it’s delicious. It was designed by Fabio Basile (@toxinide on Twitter) be sure to check out is webpage here.
So, what about this Zoom Lens? Well, at $0.99 it’s the best price you may ask for and it’s no doubt the best digital zoom app out in the App Store by now. And trust me, I’ve tried many.
