Awaken, Embraceware’s very popular alarm clock (and more) app, has just been updated to version 5. It’s available in the Mac App Store or if you’re an existing customer, you can “Check for Updates” within the app. New customers may purchase the app via the Mac App Store for $9.99, or download a demo version via Embraceware’s Awaken page.
New and Different:
- Rewritten from scratch
- All new user interface
- Support for multiple timers
- Alarm sound output device selection
- Alarm music now played by Awaken for reliability
- Volume adjustable per alarm
- Improved Apple Remote support
- All bugs reported in previous version corrected
Awaken 5 now works like Ecoute, in that it and can run without the assistance of iTunes but still having access to the iTunes music library.
The Mac App Store has a restriction which states that applications cannot request the user to enter their password to authenticate admin tasks, so ‘AwakenHelper’ was created. It is a (free) separate app that runs in your menu bar and lets Awaken schedule wake up times so that your Mac wakes at alarm time. It also can power on your Mac as well.
Awaken 5 looks like a solid update with a new UI and new features. If you want to see more screenshots or detailed features, jump over to the Awaken page. If you want to check it out on the App Store, click here.
