Invaders Corruption Mutates Invaders With Geometry Wars

I like to hunt down different indie games that fulfill the ever growing desire to feast my eyes on well made, yet simple titles that are available on a variety of platforms so that even our Windows readers can take part in all the fun. But mostly I’m just looking for some casual pixel love for my midnight Mac gaming cravings. Last week I came across Invader Corruption, where a unique name creates an individual gaming experience so that no two games are quite the same. What starts off as a boring and possibly mundane shooter ends up being compelling and totally addictive. Shoot past the break to learn more about this frantic free title.

You start off entering a word (say MacStor13s) to create a unique game environment with unique aliens and a top notch space fighter crafted to create carnage. This game isn’t quite the invaders you may remember from the Atari days, but there are references to the past titles thanks the game’s pixel oriented design and intentional throwback. However, Invaders Corruption plays more like a modified Geometry Wars, where you float around a map making sure you don’t collide with your alien foes while accumulating points. It’s Asteroids meets Geometry Wars meets punk-skateboard-hi-fi-shooter – I say that because the interesting twist with Invaders Corruption is that you can bank on risky moves to fill up a special meter that unlocks powerful abilities such as slowing down time or giving you an infinitely awesome weapon.

It’s a casual quick-play-game that starts off rather simple, but I’ll be honest when I say that the longer you play (and the better you play), the better the game gets. Now this sounds rather obvious right? Of course you’re going to enjoy the game more if you’re good at it, so what do you mean? Invaders Corruption actually gets more frantic the longer you last, introducing enemies that don’t just randomly bounce around the environment. Enemies get bigger, aliens start dodging bullets, and the sheer number of critters becomes overwhelming and panic inducing when they’re no longer following predictable patterns. It’s kind of a spooky moment when you power-slide around an enemy to earn points as he decides to change direction – those moments are both thrilling and terrifying as one slip means game over.

Invaders Corruption is free and a crap load of fun to play. It doesn’t take up much space on your hard drive, plus you don’t need Steam or any other crazy platform to enjoy it. Download it here, and get check out the video below for a barrage of eye popping pixel booms.
