Well after some delays, Portal 2 is now finally available for pre-order for an expected release of April 18th. Mac users can pre-order the game for US$44.99 on Steam or at selected retail shops, some of which have special pre-order offers;
Special pre-order offers vary at participating outlets around the world and include a variety of dollars off and/or exclusive in-game content for those who reserve the game for purchase before it is released the week of April 18. These include $5 off the full price, exclusive in-game skins for the coop bots (Atlas and P-body), and more.
Steam is also offering a deal in which you can purchase two copies of Portal 2 at a 20% discount. PlayStation 3 owners who buy the game will also be lucky enough to get a copy of Portal 2 that supports Steam Play, meaning they get a free copy of the Mac and Windows version too.
To run the game on your Mac you will need to be running OS X 10.6.6 or higher with a 2GHz or higher processor, at least 2GB of RAM and a video card equivalent to or greater than an ATI Radeon 2400 or higher / NVIDIA 8600M.
Portal 2 draws from the award-winning formula of innovative gameplay, story, and music that earned the original Portal over 70 industry accolades and created a cult following.
The single-player portion of Portal 2 introduces a cast of dynamic new characters, a host of fresh puzzle elements, and a much larger set of devious test chambers. Players will explore never-before-seen areas of the Aperture Science Labs and be reunited with GLaDOS, the occasionally murderous computer companion who guided them through the original game.
The game’s two-player cooperative mode features its own entirely separate campaign with a unique story, test chambers, and two new player characters. This new mode forces players to reconsider everything they thought they knew about portals. Success will require them to not just act cooperatively, but to think cooperatively.
