This EarthBound MacBook Decal Makes Nintendo & Apple “Come Together”

Last night I tweeted Nintendo games meeting iOS’ multi-touch capabilities would be my personal geek dream come true. Ok, that’s never going to happen (well, at least not “officially”) but we can dream, right? We’re dreamers, geeks, old Nintendo and Apple fanboys. Call us what you want, but Nintendo games are the best thing that ever happened to us in the late ’80s and ’90s.

So I stumbled upon this MacBook decal on Reddit a few minutes ago, and now I want one. For those of you not familiar with the pixelated characters you see above, they’re from classic Nintendo RPG EarthBound (known as Mother in Japan) whose main character, Ness, eventually made its way to more popular series like Super Smash Bros, both on the Nintendo Game Cube and Wii.

But what’s really cool about this decal is that it makes a lot of pieces come together. Shigesato Itoi, creator of Mother, once stated in an interview that the name of the series was influenced by John Lennon’s song “Mother”. Guess who loves the Beatles and John Lennon? Hint: the same CEO who announced a thing called “iPad” nine months ago.

I don’t know if the Redditor who posted this bought the decal somewhere else (if you know, please let us know!), but there’s no doubt it looks great. And geeky. And old-school.
