Apple this morning introduced a new entry level 21.5-inch iMac that sells for US$1,099. The model features a 1.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, Intel HD 5000 graphics, 8GB of memory, and a 500GB hard drive. It also retains the same design, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, two Thunderbolt ports and four USB 3.0 ports that are standard on all of the other iMac models.
With only a $200 saving from the next model up, and quite reduced specifications (1.4GHz vs 2.7GHz, 500GB hard drive vs 1 TB, Intel HD Graphics vs Intel Iris Pro Graphics), this is not a particularly good deal. Nevertheless, it may prove to be an attractive option for educational institutions and others who need an iMac at a low price. The other iMac models remain unchanged in both specifications and price.
The new entry level iMac is available today in Apple retail locations and online, where availability is “within 24 hours”.
The price of the new model in various countries:
- Australia: $1,349
- United Kingdom: £899
- Italy: € 1.129,00
- France & Germany: 1.099,00 €
- Canada: $1,149
- China: RMB 7,988
- Japan: ¥108,800
- Mexico: $17,999.00
