Apple Quicktime Patent Could Axe iTunes Playback

So let’s say you go online to watch a movie trailer at trailers.apple.com. When that beautiful HD trailer loads, it’s of course done through Quicktime. But imagine if you actually wanted to buy the movie, but didn’t want to be redirected to iTunes. Well, Apple is certainly considering that position: allowing you to go from trailer to movie right in your web browser. Pretty cool huh? It’d certainly be more convenient.

Patently Apple writes about the features that showed up in today’s Apple patent:

The new player will offer new features like skip-over content, restart a scene, return to a critical point and recap. The new interface will also contain an optional secondary window that will offerclosed-captioning text and more. Yet there could be a twist to the new QuickTime player when used in conjunction with a web browser on a computer or your internet connected television.

Did I just hear, “Internet connected television?” Perhaps the Apple TV isn’t a hobby after all.
