Apple to Rebrand Mac OS X Under iOS?

iOS has come to unify Apple’s mobile space with a single name branding, but that could change to envelop the Mac OS X name-ology as Apple continues desktop development. MacRumors reports that Apple is considering rebranding OS X under the new iOS monicker, and that separate versions of the OS – for iPhone, for iPad, for Mac – could be considered as flavors.

Quoting Hardmac,

They are currently thinking of using iOS as the default naming/branding of Apple OS. We would then have iOS desktop, iOS server and iOS mobile. The final decision is not taken yet, however, the proposal seems to be well supported by the high management, it would give a better exposure and unity to Apple OS platforms while making communication easier.

But would such a name change be appropriate for consumers? And does this indicate that Apple is planning to completely re-write our notions of traditional desktop environments as they carry iOS concepts onto the Mac? Only time will tell, but as Ars Technica points out, developers have been expecting this to happen eventually.
