Apple is planning on spending $1.7 million US to renovate a building in Berkeley, California, the northern part of the state, for its new store. The building is 4,455 square feet of retail space.
The architects plans for the store on Fourth Street in Berkeley, Calif., were discovered at ifoAppleStore.com. If documentation is correct, the store could open by Fall 2011.
The new Apple Store will be located at 1823 Fourth St. Apple’s plans will keep the general appearance of the current structure, plus in Apple-fashion, add a 15-foot tall glass windows on the front of the building. Apple loves glass don’t they?
Apple will expand the ground floor for retail, and add a partial second level in the back of the building for operations. There will be an elevator, stairs, bathrooms, and (of course) upgraded electrical and heating-air conditioning systems.
The Berkeley store will have the standard tables for products and training for the retail floor, plus a large Genius Bar. MBH Architects of Alameda, Calif is listed as the architect for the project.
In October 2010, Apple revealed that it plans to dramatically expand its retail operations in its 2011 fiscal year, and this design/renovation is a start. They plan on opening 40 to 50 new locations worldwide in the next year, many located internationally. Apple currently operates 317 stores, and 84 are overseas.
