Here’s an interesting (and quite surprising) rumor for you Tuesday morning lovers: according to gossip investor website Fly On The Wall (and reported by Business Insider as well), Apple’s COO Tim Cook could be leaving Apple to join HP.
The rumor seems to have emanated from Fly On The Wall, a site that serves up gossip to the investing community.
Therefore, we aren’t buying this one just yet.
HP is looking for a new CEO, but we expect it be an internal candidate. It’s such a huge company that bringing in an outsider would be daunting.
As MacRumors also reports, the rumors has caused a drop of $20 in Apple stock price this morning. I’m not buying this either, anyway: if there’s someone set to become Apple’s CEO when Steve will retire, that’s Tim Cook. He ran Apple wisely during Jobs’ absence in 2009, he’s definitely the best man for the job when the day will come. I just can’t see him leaving for HP, a company that, yes, is struggling to find a new CEO but, as BI suggests, won’t take an external candidate as an option.
Update: Barron’s confirms Cook is not going anywhere.
