aTV Flash, the first alternative browser and multimedia center for the new Apple TV, is out and available for purchase. We have covered aTV Flash in the past week, and we saw the app it’s capable of bringing several new features to the 2nd gen Apple TV, such as HTML5 playback via a custom browser or weather information.
The first public version of the app is available for $19.95 during the beta (or pre-order) phase here.
A second generation Apple TV running the 4.0 operating system is required to run aTV Flash, but the developers say 4.1 support will be added soon, together with playback for additional media formats, streaming from NAS devices and many improvements.
As it stands now, aTV Flash allows you to browse the web and stream HTML5 video from most websites, access last.fm through a dedicated interface, set up a Plex client and check on weather conditions. aTV Flash really adds a lot of new functionalities to the Apple TV, and we can’t wait to check it out.
Supported media formats include .m4v, .mp4, .mov for video, HE-AAC, AAC, MP3, MP3 VBR, Audible, Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV for audio. Check out a demo video of aTV Flash below.
