Amongst all the announcements made by Steve Jobs at the WWDC 2010 keynote, two of them haven’t exactly got the spot they deserve: Bing and Farmville are coming to the iPhone.
While Steve didn’t say that much about Bing, Microsoft’s search engine will indeed be included by default in the iPhone preferences (Yes, together with Yahoo). You can choose to activate it or not, but still this is a huge win for the guys over at Microsoft. What Steve did say though, is that he was “impressed by Microsoft’s implementation of their search engine in the browser.” Bing engineers must be happy today.
Speaking about Farmville, Zynga’s much popular (and hated) Flash-based game is coming to the iPhone with a native version by the end of June. It’ll also support some iPhone-specific features like push notifications, so that you won’t miss anything about your farm.
Bloggers are criticizing the appearance of Zynga CEO on stage today, probably because they just hate the app and can’t stand seeing it featured in Apple’s keynote. Don’t get me wrong now, I hate the app too - but looking at the business side of things, this could be a terrific win for Apple and Zynga. It’s coming by the end of June, the iPhone 4 will be released on June 24th, and with the right advertising campaign Farmville for iPhone could become the biggest hit in the App Store’s history. We’ll see.
