Cold Hard Cash Makes Up For App Store Drawbacks

A survey by Open-First has found that 48% of iPhone developers are making more money than they expected out of the App Store.Out of the 110 developers asked, 28% said that they were dissatisfied and that they were making less money than they first thought.

Reasons for dissatisfaction included the need for the app to be in the top 25 which is apparently only possible if the price is no more than $3.

Overall, 78% said that they were satisfied with the App Store in general and 99% said that they would carry on developing and publishing for Apple.

Another interesting fact is that 40% said that the Android market is worse than the App Store and Blackberry, Microsoft and Nokia markets were rated worse by 20% of the developers.

When asked about that well known fuzzy area that is the application approval process, 49% said that they were satisfied whilst 41% said they were dissatisfied and half of them agreed with the rules that ban things like porn from being approved.

On the subject of support from Apple, 40% were satisfied but 27% were unhappy due to download failures, refund confusion and lack of awareness among users that reloading or reinstalling an application is free.
